Michael Le Belfrey may look like York Minster has simply had a baby, but you'll realise fairly quickly that it is far from small. There is so much going on within its student community, and it's important that any newcomer knows the best way to get stuck-in. The church is passionate about transforming the lives of students and we can't wait to see even more students joining this year.
If you are looking to find out more about this church, these are my top tips about getting involved:
Contact one of the student team:
This year, our student team is bigger than ever before. We are all here to help, and will do anything we can to make your transition into University as easy as possible. The student team include:
If you go to ‘The Team’ link on The Belfrey Student website and click on our pictures, you will be led to our Facebook pages. Contact us at any time, we would love to get to know you! You can also contact Ben Doolan, our curate and head of student work. His details are on The Belfrey website, under ‘Staff Team.’
Check out our Sunday Services:
At Michael Le Belfrey, there are three services on a Sunday:
the 9 o’clock, a more traditional service, if this is what you prefer;
the 11 o’clock, named the XI, a more family-based service;
or the 6 o’clock, when the vast majority of students will attend.
Students will often go to lunch after the XI and the pub after the 6. This is a great time to get to know each other. There will be members of the student team at the XI and 6 o’clock service, to help you get connected.
Join a Belfrey Group:
We have four different Belfrey groups during the week, where students can get together to have fellowship, and to pray and worship God. They are a great community to be a part of and, also, give students the chance to be involved in new and exciting ways of doing mission. These are the Belfrey Groups, and when they are on:
Belfrey Folk- Monday Night Belfrey Sound- Monday Night Belfrey Social- Wednesday Night Belfrey Postgrads- Thursday Night
When you attend the Belfrey Sunday Services, come to the student table for more information.
Find a way of serving: It is important that students also consider what they can offer a church. There are so many ways to serve at the Belfrey, whether it be on the worship team, in the children’s work, in youth work, etc. If there is a particular area of interest for you, we'll happily point you in the right direction. At the Belfrey, we are passionate about empowering students to do amazing things for the kingdom of God, and raising up leaders for the future. We hope you can come and join us with this.
