Matthew spoke about how prayer in general flies in the face of social convention from an early age as it demonstrates our realisation of the fact that deep down we know that we just can't do 'life' without God.
Over the next six weeks we will be looking at different parts of the Lords Prayer and analysing how they can help us to pray. So last night we looked at the very beginning of the prayer that Jesus taught us 'Our Father in Heaven, hallowed by your name.' Matthew talked about how amazing it is that we can call God 'Abba', an Arameic word that means Daddy. He pointed out that we're all adopted into Gods family and how important it was that we know and realise the intimacy with which we can have a relationship with our all powerful Father in heaven and how this relationship can even help repair broken relationships with our earthly Fathers. Matthew went on to say that Heaven isn't some far off place, that some people have even described it as an unseen 4th dimension; similar to a wifi zone! You can't see it but it's all around us. This being the case we should always come near to God because He is our Abba and He is close.
Matthew drew his talk to a close by examining the holiness of God. The fact that God is perfect and clean and beautiful and we are not, makes it even more incredible that we are allowed to cry out to Him as our 'Abba' and because of this amazing fact we should be worshiping God whenever we pray and really, to get down on our knees and worship should be the only way we can respond to the supreme holiness of God.
Ben led the service with Tom leading us excellently in sung worship. An all round great night at #the7.
